Swedish girls

The Swedish Minister of Culture is in trouble after taking part in an art installation intended to draw attention to the issue of female genital mutilation in African women. Guests to the World Art Day exhibition at Stockholm's Museum of Modern Art, including minister Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, were invited to cut into the "region between the legs" of a cake shaped like a caricatured African woman. In an even more bizarre twist, the cake's head was actually that of the "artist" (Makode Aj Linde), who blacked up his face and screamed in mock pain as the guests cut into the cake's genitals. The misguided attempt to draw attention to female genital mutilation has developed into a full-blown controversy with calls for Adelsohn Liljeroth to resign.

And in the meantime, a Swedish model with Kenyan roots is running for Miss World Sweden 2012. Elisabeth Wangari Ideström is not really Kenya's hottest export product ever (and Emelie Leandersson is actually my favorite for Miss World Sweden 2012), but maybe she could inform the Swedish Minister of Culture about what to do and what not to do with female genitals?
